Behind the Scenes in the Urban Farm!
The Urban Farm is a department in RISE that plants things in an urban environment. It has its own location In Plum St, in downtown Lakeland.
I interviewed Mrs. Canady and asked her to tell us about the Urban Farm.
How did the Urban Farm Start?
“We had some students who were very concerned about the issue of food insecurity. We were also concerned about our own students choosing to eat healthy food,”
How many students are involved in the Urban Farm?
“It varies on any given day. We have dozens of students working on the farm and we have some elementary students that help out sometimes as well.”
How has the pandemic affected the Urban Farm?
“We didn’t have field trips for a while, so not a lot of people were able to visit the farm. But, in a positive way, the Urban Farm provided some resources for students who were planting from home.”
The Urban Farm is good for students who like planting and learning about agriculture.
