This middle school level class is offered as a year-long course. Seventh and eighth grade students learn about the importance of first responders, the ways that public policies and laws are created, the court system and judicial branch, and the corrections system. The class also studies effective strategies for advocacy in areas of law and public policy, especially at the local level. Class activities include interaction with law enforcement, preparing and performing simulated court cases, and a hands-on field trip to the Lakeland Police Department to see the inner workings of a real law enforcement agency.
